Even though the instructions suggest using up to 500 ml of water and steeping in cold water for only 7 minutes, this method may not offer enough flavour for all tea drinkers. As mentioned earlier, fruit blends are unlikely to brew into a strong cup of tea if you use cold water. This is true for specially crafted blends too. Therefore, this tea is better steeped in 200-400ml of warm water, and then topped with ice. This method too, will give a flavour lighter than regularly brewed tea, but it will be slightly more intense. Keep that in mind if you prefer stronger flavours.

Once brewed, the scent is all about peaches. Flavour is light though, so if you like lighter flavour, you’ll like this tea too. It has a light zesty note, a light mango note and a dominant peach note. It leaves a sweet fruity aftertaste. Peach Magno Cold Brew tea is very easy to drink and very easy to make. It doesn’t need any sweeteners, and adding some would only overpower the flavour.

Who would like this tea? Tea drinkers that want a light refreshing summer drink with no calories. This blend is great is for adding more flavour to your water, especially in summer. What’s in Packs a Peach?

The best way to brew Teapigs Cold Brew Pink Grapefruit tea

You can make cranberry tea from both fresh and dried cranberries, but with different results. Simply steeping them won’t be enough. Dried cranberries are usually sweetened and will release much less flavour than fresh fruits. Thankfully, making cranberry tea from fresh cranberries is super simple, as you will only need to wash and simmer them.

Spiced cranberry tea recipe ingredients

Fresh cranberries – cranberries are usually available in late autumn, but they can keep in the fridge for a month or even longer. However, you can make a delicious cranberry tea using frozen cranberries too. Once they are in season, wash and freeze them (whole) and thaw before using.

Spices – use whole, crushed spices rather than spice powders. They will give a more complex flavour and a clear liquor. Although spices do not really expire, they will lose their flavour over time, so always check before using them in recipes.

Sugar – any type of sugar will go well with this recipe. For a more neutral flavour, choose white granulated sugar or brown sugar for a nuttier warmer notes. Honey will work well too. If you want to avoid sugars, try it with sugar alternatives.

Mulled wine is a hot drink made with red wine, oranges, spices and sugar or honey. There’s no doubt mulled wine is delicious and just perfect for cold winter nights, but if you want an alcohol-free alternative, although it may sound unlikely, mulled wine teas may actually offer the same experience too.

Tea and fruits – which fresh fruits are the best?

We tried brewing simple, strong black tea with 6 different fresh fruits to see which ones give a great flavour, and which ones are better avoided.

This flavour test should give you an idea what to expect when brewing black tea with fresh fruits. It can’t tell you what pre-made blends with the same fruits taste like. Premade blends are made with dried fruits and usually many ingredients and flavourings.

1. Black tea with banana

Banana teas are steadily gaining in popularity over the last several years. While it may sound strange to give a banana flavour to tea, banana blends taste surprisingly good. But how does a simple black tea steeped with fresh banana slices taste like?

We added 3 slices and waited. First, the colour of the tea changed a little. It became a slightly less attractive, which may be discouraging. But the flavour changed for the better. Fresh banana slices added delicate banana flavour, and a honey-like sweetness to black tea. This would be a great fruit to add when steeping tea for making lattes and if you like adding honey to tea.

Yea or nay? Yea!

2. Black tea with apricot

Apricot teas are less popular than peach teas, which is a real shame. Apricots are usually more tart than peaches, but when ripe, they are super sweet and juicy. We added ½ of fresh apricot, thinly sliced. And just how nice it was! The colour turned to beautifully intense orange and apricots gave a nice acidity to black tea and light apricot flavour. This tea was a bit lighter on apricot flavour than expected, but it was quite nice. Steeping tea with fresh apricots would be great for flavouring black tea for tea drinkers that like hibiscus teas, sour fruit teas or lemon teas.

3. Black tea with blueberries

Blueberries are sort of classic. Among dozens of berries, they are one of the most popular choices for baking and making smoothies. We added some blueberries and waited. The scent was wonderful, just like a blueberry tea should be, but the flavour was delicate. Who might like it? Tea drinkers that enjoy pure and only lightly flavoured tea. To intensify the flavour, crush them before steeping them with tea.

4. Black tea with red currants

Red currants are not everyone’s cup of tea. They are pretty, but have a very unique acidic taste. They are less sweet than blackcurrants or blueberries, but sweeter than cranberries. When added to black tea, they change the colour and make it brighter and pretty, but the flavour is disappointing. They alter the flavour, and not really in a good way. There’s acidity, but the flavour is missing.

5. Black tea with apple

Apple tea is not only one of the most popular types of fruit tea – apple tea is the fruit tea. Many fruit teas contain dried apple pieces. Homemade apple and cinnamon teas are just as popular as a pre-made blends. But what do thin slices of fresh apple do to a black tea? They chance the colour to an orange-brown and give a dose of acidity and reduce astringency. However, it would taste better if the tea was simmered, rather than steeped, and enhanced with some cinnamon. Who would like it? Tea drinkers that like fruit and apple teas and like acidity in tea.

Yea or nay? In between.

6. Black tea with mango

Mango is a synonym for a tropical flavoured tea. Mangos are sweet, juicy, and super tasty. We had very high expectations from this one. Mango brightened the colour of tea, but not as much as apricots did. It did almost nothing to the flavour. Flavour was so disappointingly weak, especially since the mango was ripe, sweet and juicy. It only reduced astringency and added some undefined sweetness. To get a stronger flavour, you would need to use quite a lot of fruit.

What is Eton Mess?

If something can scream summer, it’s Eton Mess. Eton Mess is a delicious, simple British summer dessert. It’s made with fresh strawberries, sugar, whipped cream and meringues. In fact, Eton Mess without meringue would not be an Eton Mess.

This strawberry tea blend from Bird and Blend contains apple pieces, rosehip, hibiscus, elderberries, strawberries, liquorice root and natural flavouring. It’s a fruit tea with no caffeine, which makes it great for making loads of refreshing iced tea. It’s also a bulky blend, so do use more, especially if you are making an iced tea. Also, use it within the recommended time. Loose fruit teas have a shorter shelf life than real teas or most flavoured blends.

Bird and Blend suggest trying it with milk, which would be more than fun to try. We tried it the “regular” way and hot brewed it first. And to be super fair, we tried it side by side with a proper Eton Mess.

How to brew this tea?

To make a flavourful cup of Eton Mess tea, add 2 teaspoons of loose tea per cup of water. Brew it at 100 degrees Celsius for about 5 minutes. This tea contains liquorice which is naturally sweet, so it doesn’t really need an additional sweetener.

Does it taste like Eton Mess? It has the sweetness, it has the creaminess, and it has a tanginess… However, hibiscus is more pronounced than strawberries. Nevertheless, the scent is full of strawberries and cream. To get the most faithful version of the real deal, add freshly cut ripe strawberries when brewing or even cold brew it with fresh fruits.

There’s more tartness as it cools down, and liquorice is actually adding a great “meringue” note. With a little bit of fresh strawberries, this could be a great liquid Eton Mess for summer garden parties.

Who would like this blend? This is a proper fruity tea, so tea drinkers that enjoy tangy fruit and hibiscus teas would like it both cold and hot.

Strawberry Laces fruit tea blend contains strawberries, kiwi, apple, blueberry, hibiscus, rosehip, orange peel, fruit flavouring. The first thought was this would make for a lovely iced tea. It’s caffeine free, so it’s suitable for all age groups, too. This tea was blended for tea lovers that enjoy intense scents and teas that are packed with flavour. With so many zesty and flavourful ingredients, expectations were really high.

Does it taste like strawberry laces? This tea has enough sourness and enough fruitiness to make an excellent base to create a real liquid strawberry laces treat. Add in some freshly cut strawberries when seeping, and you won’t be disappointed. Without strawberries? It needs just a tiny bit of a strawberry note.

Pretty red colour, intense scent, full flavour, and a beautiful dose of sourness make this tea great for anyone who enjoys sour treats.

How to enjoy it?

It tastes great both hot and iced. We added 2 teaspoons per cup of water to intensify the flavour and steeped for 5 minutes at 100 degrees Celsius.

This tea doesn’t need a sweetener, but it would go well with a bit of honey and served over ice. Who would like this tea? Tea drinkers that enjoy fruity blends with a zesty note or hibiscus teas. It would be perfect for making iced teas or tea lemonades.
