What’s in T2 Sleep Tight blend?

Sleep Tight blend is a very simple but aromatic blend. It’s blended with lemon balm, lavender and rose petals, all of them popular for their calming and relaxing properties. It contains 91% of lemon balm, and the rest are lavender and rose petals.

If you’re not really a lemon balm lover, this blend may really surprise you. It’s aromatic, super pleasant, without that strong unique lemon balm scent. In fact, none of the ingredients dominates the blend. Instead, they blend into a deep and rich herbal scent with light minty notes and hints of floral dusky rose and soft lavender.

All these ingredients have traditionally been used for their relaxing properties. Lavender is a very common herb in aromatherapy, commonly used for its potential anxiolytic, sedative and antidepressant properties (1). Pure lavender teas may sometimes have a very strong flavour, but when blended properly, lavender will never overpower the blend. Lemon balm or sometimes simply called melissa (Melissa officinalis L.), on the other hand, if quite often used in relaxing sleepy time supplements. Studies suggest it may not only promote better sleep but reduce anxiety as well (2). Rose petals are the third ingredient in this blend. They are commonly used in tea blending, both for flavour and appearance. However, they too may provide several benefits, including improving the quality of sleep (3).

All the ingredients are caffeine free. T2 Sleep Tight tea is available as loose leaf and in tea bags.

What does it taste like?  

To make a cup of Sleep Tight tea, use freshly boiled water and steep one to two teaspoons in a cup of water for 5 minutes.

When brewed, the scent changes completely. Flavour is light, lemony, with hints of lavender. Both rose and lavender are light in this blend, and you may like them even if you typically don’t like rose or lavender teas. This is predominately a lemon balm tea. And here’s the best part. Lemon balm has a very specific flavour that you’ll either like or dislike (lemon grass is quite similar – you either like it or hate it). It’s less minty than mint teas and much more herbaceous with a somewhat lemony note. Most lemon balm teas are heavy and often overwhelming, especially if you make them from pure lemon balm leaves. Sleep Tight is totally different. It’s quite light, not bitter, and very easy to drink. This tea would go well with honey.  

Who may like this tea? If you love herbal aromatic caffeine free blends, you will probably enjoy this tea too. It’s much less herbaceous than a typical herbal blend and extremely pleasant to drink.

What’s in Singapore Breakfast tea?

This Singapore breakfast tea comes from T2, a tea company with a whole range of unique and flavourful blends. This blend is one of rare blends that contain pandan flavour. It’s made with pu’erh black tea, genmaicha green tea, coconut chips, pandan and other flavourings. This tea contains approximately the same amounts of pu’erh and genmaicha tea, which is quite an unusual combination. Pu’erh is strong, bold, and earthy, but it’s not bitter. Genmaicha is not a bitter tea either. It’s toasty and nutty, with lighter fresh green tea notes.

This tea smells nothing short of intriguing. It’s a mix of intense creamy coconut and sweet and distinct pandan, blended into a toasty and earthy tea base. There’s a light ripe pu’erh, toasty genmaicha and creamy coconut and pandan scents. It smells deep and warming.

What does Singapore Breakfast taste like?

To make a cup of T2 Singapore Breakfast tea, bring fresh water to a boil, let it cool down to 90 degrees Celsius and steep one heaped teaspoon of tea leaves for 3 minutes. Both pu’erh and genmaicha can be re-steeped, so keep the infusion time at 3 minutes if you want to use the same tea leaves twice.

Brewed tea smells exactly like dry leaves, only a bit softer. Flavour is different from any other breakfast tea out there. All ingredients add to the flavour and create a very unique experience. At the same time, you can taste them all separately. There’s a toasty genmaicha green tea flavour, unique pandan flavour, creamy coconut and deep and earthy pu’erh. Singapore Breakfast tastes more like genmaicha than pu’erh, so this tea may appeal even to tea drinkers that don’t like the earthy ripe dark teas. It’s slightly sweet and doesn’t need any sweeteners. However, if you always add a sweetener to your breakfast tea, brown sugar would be a brilliant choice.

Just like any proper breakfast blend, you can add milk to this tea, too. Rather than adding regular milk, try it with a splash of condensed milk. Condensed milk will enhance the coconut flavour and creaminess.

Who will like this tea?

Although it contains pu’erh tea, this is not a pu’reh tea. It’s a very unique blend that can’t really be compared to any other breakfast tea. Perhaps, the most prominent flavour is pandan, and although it’s far from dominating, it does give a unique character to this tea. You will like this tea if you like toasty notes, black teas with honey, nuts or coconut, even if you don’t like genmaicha or pu’erh. It’s lighter than pu’erh, but stronger than genmaicha. This is a medium bodied tea, lighter than regular breakfast blends or pu’erh teas but strong enough to be served with milk. 

Singapore Breakfast is one of the most interesting breakfast blends we’ve ever tried. However, if you are looking for a traditional cup of breakfast tea, this is not a tea for you. You may not enjoy it if you don’t like strong flavours or intensely flavoured teas. But if you like unusual flavours, enjoy genmaicha and pandan flavour, you may like this tea too.

What’s in Sticky Date Delight?

An inspiration for Sticky Date Delight came from a sticky toffee pudding, a yummy dessert made of a sponge cake, toffee sauce and dates. This tea actually contains dates (and figs) which are not at all common in tea blends. It’s blended with red rooibos tea, chicory, caramel pieces, figs, dates, marigold petals and flavourings. And it smells gorgeous. It’s sweet, deep, with hints of earthy rooibos.

Rooibos tea has a distinctive scent, which you’ll either love or hate. However, in some rooibos teas that scent and flavour are blended in a way it offers a perfect tea base, rather than a dominant scent/flavour. Sticky Date Delight is definitely one of those teas.

It’s sweet, but none of the ingredients are dominating the scent. Instead, they all give this delicious, sweet dessert note with deep caramel notes.  

How to make this sticky toffee pudding tea?

Rooibos is one of the easiest teas to brew. It will never get bitter even if you oversteep it and you can use boiling water. Simply use 1 heaped teaspoon of tea per cup of boiling water and steep for 5-10 minutes. If you want to maximise the flavour, add a teaspoon more.

This really is a beautiful rooibos tea. There’s a deep, subtle earthy rooibos note, elevated by all the sweet flavours: hints of caramel and hints of date sweetness. However, this is not a date tea. It’s a rooibos tea where all ingredients blend into a sweet and unique flavour. To make a proper tea treat, add milk, coffee creamer or use it for making a latte. Milk will elevate the caramel notes, and adding some brown sugar will intensify the sweetness.

Although flavourful, this is a light tea, so it’s great for drinking pure as well.

What’s in Packs a Peach?

Packs a Peach, fruity peach tea blend from T2 is blended with apple pieces, papaya, sweet blackberry leaves, roasted chicory root, peach, white hibiscus, marigold petals, citric acid and flavourings. That’s a lot of ingredients for a peach tea, but all are there for a reason. It’s a caffeine-free tea suitable for any time of the day.

Scent of dry tea is super nice, sweet, peachy, fruity and intense with a hint of papaya, apple and hibiscus. What’s interesting is that scents of all ingredients are there, but overall, it smells peachy.

One of the most interesting ingredients is perhaps white hibiscus, an ingredient that’s far less common than purple hibiscus. It adds the same tangy flavour, without changing the colour of tea. To make a cup of tea, use 1-2 heaped teaspoon of loose tea per cup of boiling water and steep for 5-10 minutes.

The scent of brewed tea is even more peachy than the scent of dry tea. It is naturally quite a sweet tea that doesn’t need any sweeteners. Packs a peach has a light zestiness from hibiscus, fruity and rich peachy velvety flavour and it leaves a very strong peachy aftertaste. It has a lot of depth, which many fruit teas may lack. Being a strong ingredient, hibiscus usually adds a lot of zestiness, but in this tea is adds just enough to balance out the sweetness.

Packs a peach is quite intense, deep, velvety and fruity. Because of the intensity, it would be great for making tea caviar or for using in desserts such as jellies or tea syrups. It’s also perfect for making iced tea. If you want to make an iced tea, don’t cold brew it as it will never get as intense. Use hot water instead and add ice. What is Carrot Cake tea?

Carrot Cake is a loose leaf flavoured black tea blend from T2, inspired by one of the most beloved cakes. This rich and moist cake is one of the rare dessert made with vegetables. Just like the cake itself, this tea blend contains real carrots, too. And not only does it contain carrots, but it’s also an orange-ingredients only blend. Literally. Dry leaves look like a real dessert blend, as if you are going to brew a real cake mix.

Carrot Cake tea contains black tea, pineapple bits, carrot bits, cinnamon, hazelnut brittle, almond slivers, orange slices, orange blossoms and natural and artificial flavourings. The scent of dry leaves is inviting and quite strong, with a slight acidity. Although oranges wouldn’t usually have a place in carrot cake, in this blend they add the zestiness of the cream cheese frosting.

What’s great about this blend is that offers so many opportunities for experimenting, such as lattes, rice puddings, simple syrups and ice cream.

When choosing a tea for making lattes or syrups, choose pure teas or blends with small broken leaves and intense flavour. They will make a stronger, more flavourful tea concentrate.

How to brew this tea?

Following instructions, steep one heaped teaspoon of leaves in a cup of water for 4 minutes at 98 degrees Celsius. Flavoured blends are usually always best prepared using a western brewing style – more water, about 1 teaspoon of tea leaves and a longer steeping time.

Brewed tea smells delicious – it’s creamy, buttery with hints of cinnamon, like a perfectly baked carrot cake. Flavour is light, slightly astringent, with very light sweet notes. There’s a mouth drying feeling of black tea, and light warming and slightly nutty flavour. Try it with a splash of milk and a little bit of brown sugar for a really decadent true carrot cake in a teacup experience.

Carrot Cake tea is light – it’s not one of those intensely flavoured blends, and it may appeal more to tea drinkers that like to add both milk and a sweetener to their tea. What woud be another interesting way to brew it? Make a tea latte with 2 heaped teaspoons of tea leaves and top up with steamed frothed milk. This blend would be great as either a breakfast or afternoon tea.
