When thinking of chai, peaches may be the last thing that comes to your mind. Chai is typically made with black tea, milk and sugar, and with or without spices. Fruits are not a common ingredient in this delicious tea. However, this peach chai recipe is not common either – it contains fruity and rich Darjeeling black tea, and a super tasty homemade peach syrup.

How to make peach chai?

The perfect season for making chai tea is usually autumn or winter. But the perfect season for making peach chai is from late spring to late summer – during the peach season. The deliciousness of this drink will depend on the type of peaches you use – they have to be fresh, juicy, and ripe.

To make peach chai, start with making a peach syrup first. This will take most of your time, as you’ll need to boil them in sugar and water. You can store the syrup in the fridge and even use it for making other peach-based drinks.

Ingredients

Fresh ripe peaches

Always use fresh ripe peaches, preferably organic to use the skin too. Unripe peaches will not have much of the typical peach flavour. They also won’t release too much colour. If you only plan to use peach syrup for making this drink, you can use 1 large peach only. Store any leftover syrup in an airtight glass container in the fridge.

Spices

This recipe is made with typical masala chai spices – cloves, cardamom and cinnamon. You can replace them with other spices. However, don’t add too much, as spices should only add an aromatic touch, rather than overpower the drink. Other great spices are ginger, mace blades and fennel seeds.

Sweeteners

Use only peach syrup as a sweetener. Do not add sugar when making the tea or it may be too sweet. If you like your tea to be super sweet, add one more teaspoon of peach syrup instead.

Darjeeling tea

Assam black tea is usually used for making chai. However, for this peach chai recipe, Darjeeling is a perfect choice. Second flush Darjeeling tea is fruity, rich, full-bodied and muscatel and goes really well with spices and peaches. Use only the tea that you enjoy drinking. Good quality Darjeeling tea with full and rich flavour is often difficult to find and many may have a very light or flat flavour. If your Darjeeling tea doesn’t have ripe fruit and muscatel notes, use Assam tea with a well-balanced maltiness instead.

What’s in Peach Mango Cold Brew Tea?

Cold brew teas are blended specifically made for brewing with cold water rather than hot. Although you can use hot water and then simply add ice, they are crafted to give enough flavour even in cold or lukewarm water.

Teapigs has a whole range of cold brew blends, all caffeine free. Cold brewing was first popular with green and black teas, and for a good reason. Fruit blends and many tisanes will usually release less flavour than green or black teas. Green tea is usually the fastest to cold brew, while fruity ingredients will take the longest.

Peach Mango Cold Brew tea from Teapigs contains white hibiscus, apple, sweet blackberry leaves, chicory root, citric acid, beetroot and natural peach and mango flavourings. Box contains 10 tea bags (or tea temples, as Teapigs calls them). It smells super intense, sweet, with fruity peach and mango notes.

How to make Peach and Mango Cold Brew tea?

So how to make a proper cold brew tea? Even though the instructions suggest using up to 500 ml of water and steeping in cold water for only 7 minutes, this method may not offer enough flavour for all tea drinkers. As mentioned earlier, fruit blends are unlikely to brew into a strong cup of tea if you use cold water. This is true for specially crafted blends too. Therefore, this tea is better steeped in 200-400ml of warm water, and then topped with ice. This method too, will give a flavour lighter than regularly brewed tea, but it will be slightly more intense. Keep that in mind if you prefer stronger flavours.

Once brewed, the scent is all about peaches. Flavour is light though, so if you like lighter flavour, you’ll like this tea too. It has a light zesty note, a light mango note and a dominant peach note. It leaves a sweet fruity aftertaste. Peach Magno Cold Brew tea is very easy to drink and very easy to make. It doesn’t need any sweeteners, and adding some would only overpower the flavour.

Who would like this tea? Tea drinkers that want a light refreshing summer drink with no calories. This blend is great is for adding more flavour to your water, especially in summer. It’s also a healthier drink than soda. You will like this blend if you like to drink flavoured water, and if you love peach and mango flavours. Individual packaging makes it great for takin on holidays too.

However, if you are expecting strong and flavoured blend similar to a properly brewed peach hot tea or peach iced teas, it may not be flavourful enough for you to truly enjoy it.

Ingredients for making Peach Tea Boba

Fresh peach: Only use ripe peaches, otherwise the peach flavour will be very mild. If you can’t get fresh ripe peaches, the best alternative are the canned ones. One larger peach will be enough to make 2 servings of the bottom peach layer. You don’t need to peel them. If you do, the colour of the syrup will be more yellow, otherwise it will be orange-red.

Sugar: The best type of sugar for this recipe is white granulated sugar.

Black tea: Although you can use any quality strong black tea, a second flush Darjeeling is one of the best teas to use for this recipe. It’s fruity and floral, rich and pairs amazingly well with peach. Second flush Darjeeling is widely available and a genuine delight to drink pure too. A good alternative is a malty and rich Assam or a regular breakfast blend.

Tapioca pearls: Tapioca pearls are usually used for milk teas, while fruit bobas will often contain juicy popping pearls. This recipe is great with brown sugar boba pearls as the peach layer is thicker than regular juice. However, feel free to replace brown sugar boba with peach popping boba.

Instructions

Make the peach layer: To make the peach layer wash and cut one larger peach into thin slices. Add it into a small saucepan with 150 ml of water and 2-3 spoons of sugar and simmer for 15-20 minutes. Let it cool for 5-10 minutes, then strain it through a cheesecloth. Another way is to blend it first, then strain it. Syrup won’t be as clear, but it will have lots of flavour, with a texture closer to a peach juice with pulp.

You can make this layer ahead of time and store it in the fridge.

Brew the tea: Bring fresh water to a boil. Measure 1 heaped teaspoon of 2nd flush Darjeeling tea leaves and steep them in 220 ml of water for 3 minutes. Choose high quality odourless water that won’t impact the flavour of the tea.

Cook tapioca pearls: Cook tapioca pearls following instructions on the packaging. Use at least 500 ml of water and bring it to a boil. Add tapioca pearls, wait until they are all floating on the surface, then cover and simmer for a few more minutes.

Assemble the drink: To assemble the peach tea boba, pour ½ of the peach syrup into a serving glass. Add tapioca pearls right after straining them. You don’t need to coat them. Add ice and slowly pour brewed tea over ice.

What’s in Packs a Peach?

Packs a Peach, fruity peach tea blend from T2 is blended with apple pieces, papaya, sweet blackberry leaves, roasted chicory root, peach, white hibiscus, marigold petals, citric acid and flavourings. That’s a lot of ingredients for a peach tea, but all are there for a reason. It’s a caffeine-free tea suitable for any time of the day.

Scent of dry tea is super nice, sweet, peachy, fruity and intense with a hint of papaya, apple and hibiscus. What’s interesting is that scents of all ingredients are there, but overall, it smells peachy.

One of the most interesting ingredients is perhaps white hibiscus, an ingredient that’s far less common than purple hibiscus. It adds the same tangy flavour, without changing the colour of tea. Roasted chicory root is often used as a caffeine-free substitute for coffee. In tea blends, it adds body and earthy, velvety notes. And last, apple, papaya and peach all give fruity notes, while sweet blackberry leaves are there for natural sweetness. It really sounds like a peach, doesn’t it?

What does T2 Peach tea taste like?

To make a cup of tea, use 1-2 heaped teaspoon of loose tea per cup of boiling water and steep for 5-10 minutes.

The scent of brewed tea is even more peachy than the scent of dry tea. It is naturally quite a sweet tea that doesn’t need any sweeteners. Packs a peach has a light zestiness from hibiscus, fruity and rich peachy velvety flavour and it leaves a very strong peachy aftertaste. It has a lot of depth, which many fruit teas may lack. Being a strong ingredient, hibiscus usually adds a lot of zestiness, but in this tea is adds just enough to balance out the sweetness.

Packs a peach is quite intense, deep, velvety and fruity. Because of the intensity, it would be great for making tea caviar or for using in desserts such as jellies or tea syrups. It’s also perfect for making iced tea. If you want to make an iced tea, don’t cold brew it as it will never get as intense. Use hot water instead and add ice. Flavour is very intense, so a teaspoon will be enough to get a very flavourful iced tea.

When making a classic drink, there’s no room for mistakes. Peach iced tea is an ultimate summer drink. Don’t lose the opportunity to make peach iced tea with fresh peaches from a scratch, especially since the peach season is in full swing.

What is peach iced tea?

Peach iced tea can be many things. It can be tea made with fruits only, or it can be black tea flavoured with peaches. Pre-made peach iced teas don’t necessarily need to contain any real tea or any real fruits.

Homemade peach tea can be made with:

Black tea and peach syrup

Black tea and fresh peaches

Peach flavoured black tea

Each of these methods has its own benefits. The first one may require more time and effort, as you will need to make a peach syrup first. It will give the most flavourful tea though, and you can store peach syrup in the fridge and use it for making multiple iced teas. The third method will usually have a weaker tea, depending on which tea you are using. And the second method – the one we choose for this guide – will give a flavourful, naturally sweet tea in only 10 minutes. This method requires very little effort, and it’s great for making a peach iced tea even when you are busy.

© All That Tea

Why should you make peach iced tea at home?

Pre-made peach iced teas may taste delicious, but they may be full of sugars too. Not all peach teas are the same, and some may contain artificial sweeteners or may be sweetened with honey. What’s great about making a peach iced tea from a scratch is that you can choose your own ingredients and make it more or less sweet, strong or light, 100% organic or even choose different black tea for a base to get more unique flavours.

Some of the ingredients you can add:

Rosemary

Mint

Ginger

Cinnamon

Cardamom

Basil

Ingredients for making a peach iced tea with fresh peaches

To make peach tea at home, you will need fresh ripe peaches and water. Peaches are naturally sweet, so depending on the ripeness, you may not need to use a sweetener at all. Don’t use frozen or freeze-dried peaches, they won’t give the same flavour as ripe fresh ones. This recipe uses one whole small peach per glass to get as intense flavour as possible. The most crucial part is avoiding unripe peaches with a bland flavour.

Which black tea is the best for making iced tea?

For making a strong flavourful iced tea, you will need a strong black tea. If you don’t want to use any additional sweeteners, choose teas that won’t get bitter. That usually means high-quality teas, but with smaller broken leaves. Assam and Nilgiri black tea will work great. Tea dust in tea bags may often be bitter when steeped for over 3-5 minutes and may sometimes brew into a murky tea. If you are using tea bags, opt for pyramid bags with loose tea instead. You can even choose teas that are already flavoured with peach flavour, or even caramel flavoured black tea, Earl Grey or – masala chai.

Can you simmer it instead of brewing?

Simmering method is great for making a strong black tea for serving over ice. Simmering fresh peach with black tea leaves will often result in a stronger flavour. This is a good method if you are making more than just a cup of tea and want to use a sweetener like honey or simple syrup.
