What is Dirty Matcha?

Dirty matcha is an iced tea made with matcha green tea powder and coffee. While the thought of mixing green tea and coffee may sound weird at first, it’s incredibly delicious. Both coffee and matcha have a strong flavour and some bitterness. Matcha is not as grassy as sencha, and more earthy than other green teas which makes it a great pair for a naturally bitter coffee.

This drink contains more caffeine than a single espresso shot, as both ingredients, matcha and coffee, are naturally caffeinated. A shot of espresso will have around 60 mg of caffeine, same as matcha prepared with a teaspoon of matcha powder. 1/2 of matcha powder will be enough to make one serving, but feel free to use a whole teaspoon if you prefer a stronger flavour. To reduce the caffeine content, use decaf coffee.

Which coffee is the best for making Dirty matcha?

Dirty matcha is usually made with a shot of espresso. However, if you don’t have a coffee machine or you prefer other types of coffee, that’s perfectly fine too. You can replace regular espresso with 30-50 ml of instant coffee mad with 1 leveled teaspoon of coffee. There are many types of matcha, and some are not matcha at all. Use either authentic Japanese matcha tea powder or alternatives that have a similar flavour and colour, such as Korean matcha. Both latte and ceremonial grade will be great for making this drink.

Can I use cold water/milk for making matcha?

Yes, you can. However, it’s always better to make matcha with hot water to achieve a deeper flavour and potentially better benefits. Since coffee has a strong flavour, making matcha with hot rather than cold water will give a better tasting drink.

How to make a vegan Dirty matcha?

For a vegan alternative, you can use any milk substitute you want. However, some may add additional flavour notes to your drink. To keep the original flavour, choose milk alternatives with a neutral flavours or cashew milk. The milk substitute that you are using should not be too watery. Choose barista style milks or milks that have around 50-70 kcal per 100 ml – they will usually have a better texture.

Ingredients

• 50 ml of water
• ½ to 1 teaspoon of matcha powder
• ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
• 30 ml espresso shot or 30-50 ml instant coffee
• 1-2 teaspoons of sugar
• 150 ml of milk
• Ice

Instructions

• Bring water to a boil and let it cool to 85 degrees Celsius (185°F).
• Prepare a shot of espresso or use boiling water to make 50 ml of instant coffee. Add vanilla extract.
• Sift matcha powder into a bowl or larger cup and add 70 ml of water.
• Whisk it using an electric hand frother or chasen.
• Pour matcha into a serving glass.
• Add cold milk.
• Add sugar and stir well. If you want a layered drink, add sugar now. Do not add any sugar to coffee.
• Add ice.  
• Slowly pour coffee over ice, avoiding direct contact with the tea.
• If needed, add more ice and serve.

Dirty chai, dirty chai tea latte or dirty chai latte is a drink that was invented by an accident. It’s made with an Indian masala chai tea base and an Italian espresso coffee shot, all served in a latte style. A result? Creamy and frothy, spicy and strong, but sweet drink. Sometimes, this tea can be made from a tea concentrate, just like regular chai lattes. It’s easy to make at home from a pre-made chai blend too.

Does Dirty Chai taste good?

Dirty Chai is a latte and not a traditional Indian milk tea, but this doesn’t make it any less delicious. If you love flat white or cappuccino and spiced milk tea, you will love this latte too. At first, it may seem like a rather odd combination, but once you try it, you will want definitely to drink it again.

Does Dirty Chai have caffeine?

Dirty chai has more caffeine than a shot of espresso or a cup of chai latte. A shot of espresso will have approximately 60 mg of caffeine, although this will depend on many factors, such as how much coffee was used. However, if you are making it by steeping a pre-made tea blend that brews into a mellow infusion and you are using medium roast coffee with little bitterness, you may not even need a sweetener. When making tea from a tea concentrate, check the label to see the sugar content.

Does Dirty Chai have alcohol?

No, Dirty Chai doesn’t contain any alcohol. However, you could try adding brandy, whiskey or even a cream liqueur. If it blends well with spiced milk tea and it blends well with coffee with milk, it will blend well with a Dirty Chai, too.

What is Choffee Mint tea?

Choffee Mint tea is a beautiful blend crafted with Sri Lankan black tea, whole coffee beans, cocoa husks, cocoa nibs, roasted dandelion root, peppermint and flavouring. It smells delicious – deep and chocolaty, with minty note and hints of coffee. Think of dark mint chocolate but without sugary sweetness, and that’s exactly what this tea smells like.

Mint and black tea are a less common pair than mint and green tea, but they complement each other really well. The ingredients in Choffee Mint tea make it a brilliant afternoon (or after lunch) tea. Mint may help aid digestion and promote relaxation (Source: ScienceDirect) and both tea and coffee contain caffeine and may help boost energy. This makes it a perfect blend for afternoons when all you want to do is take a nap but you can’t affor it. What’s great about this tea is that it’s blended exceptionally well – all ingredients have their purpose and contribute to the flavour without being overpowering. Roasted dandelion root is often used as a coffee alternative because of its toasty and deep flavour. And then, there are also cocoa husks and cocoa nibs that give a delicate chocolate note, without extreme sweetness. Choffee Mint doesn’t contain added sugar and is suitable for vegetarians.

How to brew Choffee Mint tea?

This tea is available as loose tea in pyramid tea bags, refill pouches and caddies. Steep one teaspoon of one pyramid tea bag in a cup of water (150-200 ml) for 3-5 minutes with boiling water. Choffee Mint has an incredibly deep flavour, with only a slight astringency, dominant dark chocolate note and minty aftertaste. Coffee adds depth, but even if you are not a coffee drinker, this tea will win you over. What’s surprising is that all the ingredients in this Choffee Mint tea have a natural light bitterness, but brewed tea is not bitter at all. It tastes great with no condiments, but you can drink it with some milk and brown sugar, too. Depending on how long you steep it for, you can re-use the same tea leaves one more time. Choffee Mint is both an office blend and a dessert blend for an afternoon tea. It offers refreshment, an energy boost, a very delicious flavour, and it’s easy to brew.

There’s a certain dose of wickedness in mixing two of the favourite morning drinks – coffee and tea. Coffee tea may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you like the idea, this blend is worth trying. Vanilla Tiramisu tea is, in fact, nothing like a cup of espresso tea.

What is it like?

What is Vanilla Tiramisu?

Vanilla Tiramisu is a flavoured blend from Bloom Teas, crafted to pay respect to the popular Italian dessert. It contains Sri Lankan black tea, cocoa shells, coffee beans, cinnamon, calendula petals, sunflower petals, vanilla pieces, and natural vanilla flavouring. A whole lot of ingredients for one tea bag, but yet there are all there and you can see them all – even a coffee bean. Bloom Teas uses non-plastic pyramidal bags, so you can see all the ingredients clearly – beautiful huge cocoa shells, whole coffee beans, pretty black tea and all the petals. The first thing we noticed? That it has an amazin scent.

How to Espresso Black Tea?

To keep truthful to the name, we brewed Vanilla Tiramisu tea in smaller cups – only 100 ml. And that seems like the perfect cup for this tea. 2 grams per tea bag may not be a lot of tea, so to get the best flavour, using less water may be a good idea.

The first infusion was steeped at 2.5 minutes at nearly boiling water.

And… it’s extremely nice – well rounded, creamy, with just enough cocoa and coffee notes to give you a feeling you are drinking a liquid dessert. Cocoa is prevalent – just like a first bite of a delicious tiramisu dusted with fine cocoa powder. Plus, it doesn’t get bitter as it cools down.

Base of this tea is a Sri Lankan tea, which is generally lighter than strong Assams, and a great base for this blend.

We kept the second infusion at 5 minutes. Longer steeping brought out less cocoa and more coffee notes, with a tiny spicy touch. But not of spices, though, more like the spiciness of black tea and coffee. It’s deeper and stronger, but still light enough to be enjoyed with no condiments.

Both infusions have pretty, dark copper and transparent colour and a refreshing lightness – just like a real tiramisu.

Although Vanilla Tiramisu tea is nothing like a cup of strong dark espresso, it makes a great afternoon tea, especially if you want to replace coffee. Regardless of the lightness, brewed with 2 tea bags, it would be great as a latte too. We see it as a great daily office blend or an afternoon treat.
