Some with have more pronounced vanilla notes, some more sweetness and some will be robust. Most vanilla blends contain only a few ingredients, but there are teas that may have more. The more ingredients a tea will have, the less pronounced vanilla flavour will be. One is true though, there is a perfect vanilla tea bled for everyone.  

Giddy Up Buttercup contains black tea, sunflower and calendula petals and natural flavourings. It’s intended to be more buttery than your average vanilla blend. Sunflower and calendula petals make this blend really pretty and elegant. This tea smells sweet, deep, with buttery vanilla note. Vanilla doesn’t overpower the deep black tea notes, it’s incorporated into the tea base and adds deep sweetness instead.

What does Giddy Up Buttercup taste like?

To make a cup of Giddy Up Buttercup tea, steep one teaspoon of tea leaves in a cup of freshly boiled water for 3 minutes. This is a strong and brisk tea that may turn bitter if you over-steep it. Therefore, if you prefer strong flavours or want to use it for latte, use more tea leaves rather than increased steeping time.

Brewed tea has an uncommonly pretty orange-red colour that’s translucent with no murkiness. It has a dose of freshness, vanilla buttery notes and a bit of light smokiness. It’s a sharp black tea, with crispiness and freshness, one you’d like to drink in the afternoons, rather than mornings. The scent is exactly the same as the flavour. It’s aromatic but light, with very light astringency common for brisk black teas and mellow vanilla notes.

Giddy Up Buttercup is very easy to drink, and it’s not heavy at all. Because of its lightness and warmth, it feels perfect for the transitioning period from summer to autumn. This tea doesn’t need a sweetener, but it would go really well with some lighter honey or light brown sugar.

When you add milk, it has a beautiful light orange-brown colour. It’s so pretty, you will want to add milk every time. Milk enhances creamy notes and softens the briskness. What is Toffee Apple tea?

Toffee Apple tea is a flavoured black tea blend inspired by the ultimate autumn treat – toffee, candy or caramelised apples. The traditional toffee apples are fresh apples coated in caramelised sugar often mixed with red food colouring. They are so popular that they even have their own national day – October 31st. Toffee Apples are usually available in autumn, but they are easy to make at home too. However, making a cup of toffee apple flavoured tea and adding the right condiments may be just as delicious.

Toffee Apple black tea blend from The Tea Crew is a pretty and deliciously smelling blend of Ceylon black tea, apple pieces, cherries, coriander seeds, almonds and natural flavourings. It smells sweet and fresh, with deep sweet apple base notes. Since a good apple needs not only to be sweet, but fresh and crispy too, smooth and crisp Ceylon black tea is a brilliant choice for this blend.

The best thing about liquified autumn treats is that while they are full of flavour, they are also virtually calorie free. This tea doesn’t contain any added sugar, but since it’s a black tea, it contains caffeine.

How to brew this tea?

Use 1 heaped teaspoon of tea leaves per cup of water and steep for 3-5 minutes at 100 degrees Celsius. First and foremost, this is a Ceylon black tea. It’s not an intensely flavoured blend, and the scent is lightly sweet, with deeper black tea notes. Toffee Apple is highly aromatic, but still light autumnal tea with hints of apples and sweetness. It’s not astringent or bitter and is great with no condiments.

For the ultimate experience, the best possible way to drink it is with 1 teaspoon of unsweetened condensed milk and ½ teaspoon of brown sugar. With a bit of creaminess and nutty sweetness, the result is a real liquified autumnal treat. It will still be low in calories, as adding ½ teaspoon of sugar and 1 teaspoon of condensed milk will add approximately 30 calories to this tea.

Toffee Apple is a very easy to drink tea great for tea drinkers that prefer lightly flavoured or pure teas, rather than strong flavours. It has a truly warm autumn feeling, but it’s not overpowering or heavy.

Strong and earthy flavour, deep red colour and an opportunity to re-steep almost endlessly. Pu’erh is not everyone’s cup of tea, but many tea companies are trying to find a way for pu’erh to make it lovable even for those that don’t like it. And that’s exactly what The Tea Crew did with the Lucky Monkey tea.

Pu’erh is a great tea to drink. While flavouring raw aged teas should never really be an option, ripe pu’erh does offer a lot of fun opportunities.

Tropical Pu’erh? Why not!

What is Lucky Monkey?

Lucky Monkey is a truly interesting blend. Not only it’s enhanced with tropical notes but contains banana pieces and sencha green tea too. Pu’erh and sencha? Not a common match.

This blend is pretty. It has pretty pu’erh leaves, whole banana slices, red safflowers and small papaya chunks. And an occasional green tea leaf that gives it an even prettier look. The tropical scent may seem too intense at first, but many flavoured teas will have a scent that will rarely tell you what the flavour will be like. It just comes with the job.

We brewed this pu’erh using a brewing technique that’s somewhere in between traditional and western – starting with a minute at just a little below 100 degrees Celsius and prolonging steeping time with each subsequent steep.

How to brew this tea?

Some pu’erh teas may have a very intense artificial flavour that masks the flavour of pu’erh completely. But Lucky Monkey is different. Maybe that’ why it’s lucky. You can feel the unmistakable ripe pu’erh body, mellow, slightly earthy, and only light, lingering tropical notes. It’s not the strong, robust, dark pu’erh, it’s light, vibrant, and cheerful tea that has just enough of both earthiness and tropical notes to be described as flavoured, but not overwhelming. And it’s there as an aftertaste too. Lucky Monkey is an absolutely delicious tea.

This tea is great for re-steeping. Even with the second infusion, it doesn’t lose any flavour, which may often be a case with flavoured pu’erhs. In fact, it gives an infusion almost identical to the first one – deep ripe earthy pu’erh, gentle tropical and a light banana notes. This tea can give you at least 5 good infusions.

Any bitterness? No, but that’s common to ripe pu’erhs. How does it taste when it cools down? Also great. Lucky Monkey would be an amazing iced tea, but it could also make a great tea milkshake.

This is a really good daily pu’erh for tea drinkers that want to drink pu’erh but don’t like the flavour of pure tea. Because it’s sweet and flavourful, but not overpowering and still has a pronounced pu’erh note, it’s also a great introduction to pu’erh teas if you never tried pu’erh tea before.
