Jammie Hearts tea is a very simple black tea blend from Birdhouse Tea Company with lots of personality. This blend is inspired by Jammie Dodgers, buttery biscuits with a sweet strawberry jam filling.

Although not described as a breakfast blend, this tea is more than perfect for an early morning cuppa or an early afternoon teatime. It contains freeze-dried raspberries and strawberries and a touch of vanilla, on a simple, full-bodied, slightly malty and brisk black tea base.

It’s lighter than a typical dessert tea, but more fun than a regular breakfast blend. This tea blend smells sweet and deep, with light vanilla shortbread notes and fruity undertones.

What does it taste like?

To make a perfect cup of flavoured black tea, use 1-2 teaspoons of tea leaves per cup of water and steep in freshly boiled water for 3 to 5 minutes. Black tea may become bitter if you over-steep it, so keep the steeping time up to 5 minutes.

Jammie Hearts smells deep, sweet and buttery, with an irresistible strawberry jam aroma. Lightly flavoured but full-bodied, this tea is a perfect alternative to regular black blends. It has a very light astringency that leaves a long and sweet aftertaste. It goes really well with milk or a coffee creamer, and it’s delicious with or without a sweetener.

What is Jaffa Cake tea?

Jaffa Cake tea from Birdhouse tea company is a handcrafted blend of black tea and red rooibos tea, with dried orange pieces and cacao husks. Open a box of real Jaffa cakes and you will be swept over by a delicious orange & chocolate scent. This blend is no different – it smells DELICIOUS. It honestly couldn’t be closer to the scent of Jaffa cakes. Beautiful black tea leaves and red rooibos, sprinkled with cocoa husk and dried orange chunks, look very pretty too. Since it’s blended with black tea, this tea contains caffeine.

How to this tea?

Just like with all flavoured dessert teas, using a bit more leaves if often better. No matter how good they sound and smell, flavoured teas are not meant to be overpowering and the best blends should allow the flavour of tea leaves to come through.

We brewed this one with 1.5 teaspoons of tea leaves in 200 ml of water at 100 degrees Celsius for about 5 minutes. You can steep it longer, and it won’t get bitter.

This truly is a lovely tea with light cocoa and light orange notes. There’s depth, there’s richness, there’s chocolate, and there’s even a sponge base. Earthy rooibos dominates this blend and pairs well with black tea. However, this tea is more of a cocoa rooibos blend than a traditional orange Jaffa.

So, what is the best way to drink it? Sometimes, some teas just need a little nudge to achieve their full potential. Try adding some freshly squeezed orange juice and this tea becomes a true liquid version of a popular cake.

Is it a keeper? Definitely.

With so many zesty and flavourful ingredients, expectations were really high.

Does it taste like strawberry laces? This tea has enough sourness and enough fruitiness to make an excellent base to create a real liquid strawberry laces treat. Add in some freshly cut strawberries when seeping, and you won’t be disappointed. Without strawberries? It needs just a tiny bit of a strawberry note.

Pretty red colour, intense scent, full flavour, and a beautiful dose of sourness make this tea great for anyone who enjoys sour treats.

How to enjoy it?

It tastes great both hot and iced. We added 2 teaspoons per cup of water to intensify the flavour and steeped for 5 minutes at 100 degrees Celsius.
