From pecan and pumpkin spice pies to rich and indulgent spiced drinks, autumn is one of the most tempting seasons. The world of tea has its own tempting seasonal blends too. Pecan praline black tea is one of them.

What is Pecan Praline?

Depending on where you live, Pecan Praline could mean two things. American pecan pralines are a type of sweet treat made with pecan nuts, sugar, butter and heavy cream, while most of European pralines are a type of chocolate bonbons. Pecans are not that common in many parts of Europe, and the second best replacement are walnuts.

Pecan Praline black tea is a tea inspired by American pralines, from a US based tea subscription company Simple Loose Leaf. It’s blended with South Indian black tea, cinnamon chips and pecan pieces, and contains natural flavour. It’s a beautiful blend with a strong, deep tea base, and it smells DELICIOUS. What’s great about this tea is that the base tea, even with no other ingredients, would be delicious too. The saying goes, don’t judge a book by its cover, but judging a tea by the look of dry leaves is not a bad thing at all. Why? Because all Camellia sinensis teas, no matter their natural colour, should look fresh and appealing. South Indian black teas are usually bold, and this black tea makes a great base for this blend. Plus, it contains real pecans too, and beautiful toasty caramel flavour.

© All That Tea

How to steep Pecan Praline?

Steep 1 heaped teaspoon of tea leaves in a cup of water at 98 degrees Celsius for 3 minutes. Flavour is well-rounded, with a slight astringency and deep warming notes. While the scent is very intense, this tea is one of those blends that use flavouring to add charm, rather than taking over the entire base. Pecan notes are light, and blend into a light caramel flavour, while the cinnamon is adding a nice warming touch. There’s a light sweet warm nutty dessert aftertaste, but the tea itself is not sweet, so it’s great for tea drinkers that don’t like sweet teas too.

© All That Tea

Who would like this tea? Tea drinkers that enjoy stronger flavours, spiced and smoky teas and like to drink their tea strong or with a splash of milk. Also, it would be great for making a tea syrups or tea lattes. When making a latte, add 2 teaspoons of tea leaves rather than one. This tea would go well with milk substitutes that have a slightly nutty flavour. This tea is amazing for a holiday season, but it’s also great as a breakfast tea – with or without a splash of milk.
