What’s in Maple Syrup tea?

Maple Syrup tea blend from BRUU is blended with dark oolong tea, walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds and flavourings. Oolong tea is less often used form blending than black tea, but it has definitely a lot to offer. Darker oolongs are a great substitute for black teas, with lighter flavour and warmer roasted notes. This tea is definitely a great base for blending with nuts and maple syrup flavour, as it has a natural deep roasted note.

Unlike black tea, darker oolongs don’t have maltiness or heaviness. They are lighter, fresher, more fruity, and perfect for cool and breezy autumn days. Maple Syrup oolong tea smells super delicious. It’s deep, nutty and syrupy sweet. Walnut and maple scents are both present.

What does Maple Syrup tea taste like?

To make a cup of tea, steep one or one and a half teaspoon of tea leaves per cup of water at 80-90 degrees Celsius for 2-3 minutes. Oolong tea can stand higher temperatures but will usually need slightly more tea leaves to offer the best flavour. This is especially true if you want to drink it with milk.  

Brewed tea smells sweet, syrupy, and nutty. It has a warming, slightly sweet nutty flavour, that’s a bit lighter than the scent. It’s lighter than black teas, with no astringency and no mouth drying feeling. Maple Syrup tea is not a super intensely flavoured blend. Instead, it’s flavoured just enough to enhance the natural oolong tea flavour. This tea leaves a warming syrupy aftertaste that leaves you wanting to sip more.

Although this is an oolong tea, you can add milk too. Condensed milk with caramel notes is a great alternative to regular milk for this tea. If you’d rather add milk, choose the one with a higher percentage of fat. It doesn’t need any sweetener, but it would go well with maple syrup or brown sugar.

Who would like this tea? This tea is great for tea drinkers that enjoy nutty, caramel and toasty notes, but would still like to taste the flavour of base tea. Although the scent is intense, the flavour is lighter. It might appeal to tea drinkers that love drinking both pure and flavoured teas, especially if you like dark roast oolongs.
